The case dates back to September 28, 2011 when the businesswoman tried to download 652 fins. According to biological expertise number 3551-ZOO-BIO-2011, the fins were not naturally attached to a stem.<\/p>\n<p>The case was discovered by the National Customs Service of Costa Rica and was presented by the Head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol (NCB) in San Jos\u00e9 as a new form of finning during the second meeting of the Working Group on Fishery Interpol Crime, which began in Nairobi, Kenya, on Monday, November 4, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The Costa Rican NGO Pretoma, which has led a campaign against shark finning for over 10 years, calls on the authorities to ensure that this crime is properly punished.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remember that national fisheries authorities have been extremely lenient with Taiwanese businessmen involved in activities of finning\u201d said Randall Arauz from Pretoma. &#8220;They do not even have feared falling into international ridicule, and has just been possible to reverse their distorted policies by the Comptroller, the Attorney General, and the Constitutional Court&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Pretoma will properly inform the public about the outcome of these court events.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_3911\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/purple-notice-shark-finning-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3911\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3911\" alt=\"New new art of shark finning\" src=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/purple-notice-shark-finning-1-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3911\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new new art of shark finning<\/p><\/div><!--:--><!--:es--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Empresaria Kathy Tseng Chang en el banquillo de los acusados<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(11 de marzo, 2014 &#8211; San Jos\u00e9, Costa Rica).<\/p>\n<p>Este mi\u00e9rcoles 12 de marzo, en el Tribunal de Juicios de Puntarenas, se llevar\u00e1 a cabo la continuaci\u00f3n del juicio por aleteo contra la empresaria Kathy Tseng Chang, (expediente N\u00b0 11-203870-431-PE). El caso se remonta al 28 de Setiembre del 2011, cuando la empresaria intent\u00f3 descargar 652 aletas de tibur\u00f3n, adheridas a los espinazos. (Segun pericia Biol\u00f3gica numero 3551-ZOO-BIO-2011, las aletas NO estaban adheridas naturalmente a un v\u00e1stago).<\/p>\n<p>El caso fue descubierto por el Servicio Nacional de Aduanas de Costa Rica y fue presentado por el Jefe de la Oficina Central Nacional de Interpol (OCN) en San Jos\u00e9 como una nueva modalidad de aleteo, durante la segunda reuni\u00f3n del Grupo de Trabajo de <b>Interpol sobre Delitos Pesqueros<\/b>, que comenz\u00f3 en Nairobi, Kenia, el lunes 4 de noviembre del 2013.<\/p>\n<p>La organizaci\u00f3n costarricense Pretoma, que ha liderado una campa\u00f1a contra el aleteo de los tiburones desde hace m\u00e1s de 10 a\u00f1os, hace un llamado a las autoridades para asegurar que este delito se castigue debidamente.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hay que recordar que las autoridades pesqueras nacionales han sido sumamente permisivas con los empresarios taiwaneses involucrados en actividades de aleteo&#8221;, advirti\u00f3 Randall Arauz, de Pretoma.&#8221;Incluso no han temido caer en el rid\u00edculo internacional, y tan solo ha sido posible revertir sus torcidas pol\u00edticas por medio de la Contralor\u00eda, la Procuradur\u00eda, y la Sala Constitucional&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Pretoma informar\u00e1 debidamente a la opini\u00f3n p\u00fablica sobre el desarrollo de los eventos judiciales.<\/p>\n<p><div id=\"attachment_3911-2\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/purple-notice-shark-finning-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3911-2\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-3911\" alt=\"Aletas de tibur\u00f3n adheridas a los espinazos\" src=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/purple-notice-shark-finning-1-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-3911-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">El nuevo arte del aleteo<\/p><\/div><!--:--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Businesswoman Kathy Chang Tseng in the dock (March 11, 2014 &#8211; San Jos\u00e9, Costa Rica).
