Costa Rica has to opportunity to lead the process to include 2 species of hammer head sharks (<em>Sphyrna lewini<\/em> and <em>Sphyrna mokarran<\/em>) in the Convention\u2019s appendix I, as well as cosponsor Egypt\u2019s proposal to include silky sharks (<em>Carcharhinus falciformis<\/em>) in appendix II. Costa Rica must consolidate its stance on these species by September 4<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 All 3 species are highly migratory, inhabit and pass through Costa Rica Exclusive Economic Zone and have demonstrated serious population declines in recent decades according to the latest scientific studies.<!--:--><!--:es--><div id=\"attachment_4029-2\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/C.-falciformis-2-copy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4029-2\" class=\"wp-image-4029 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/C.-falciformis-2-copy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"C. falciformis 2 copy\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4029-2\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tiburon sedoso Carcharhinus falciformis<\/p><\/div><\/p>\n<p>El Ex-Presidente Jose Maria Figueres Olsen y su organizacion Via Costarricense mandaron <a href=\"http:\/\/cremacr.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Ministros-RREE-y-Ambiente-25-agosto-2014.pdf\">una carta al Ministro de\u00a0 Ambiente de Costa Rica<\/a> pidiendole apoyo para conservar el tibur\u00f3n martillo y sedoso (gris) en la Convencion de las Especies Migratorias de Animales Silvestres (CMS).\u00a0 Costa Rica tiene la oportunidad de liderar el proceso para la inclusi\u00f3n de los tiburones martillo (<em>Sphyrna lewini<\/em> y <em>Sphyrna mokarran<\/em>) en el Ap\u00e9ndice I de la CMS adem\u00e1s de ser un copatrocinador de la propuesta entregada por Egipto para incluir al tibur\u00f3n sedoso (<em>Carcharhinus falciformis<\/em>) en el Ap\u00e9ndice II.\u00a0 Lograr esto requerir\u00eda de acciones por parte de Costa Rica antes del pr\u00f3ximo 4 de septiembre.
